Hey fam,
Last week for P-day we got to go to the Wildlife Safari, we are
teaching Jungle Jamie and he hooked us up. We got to feed the
giraffes, bears and tigers. It was a cool experience. The bears would
stand up tall and then we tossed them apples and donuts. One of them
was lazy and thought he could just sit up a little bit taller and get
his reward. It makes me think of life sometimes. Standing up all the
way is hard at times. It is more comfortable just to sit there and get
the reward. We fake it sometimes. But, we know that the real reward
and fullest blessings come when we stretch up tall. I was grateful to
have fun and learn that lesson from those silly bears. The giraffes
were my fav. They are so chill. We got to feed them bananas and
lettuce. Friendly guys. Next week we get to go back and have some fun
with the Lions, elephants and cheetahs. I can't wait. :)
This week we taught Delbert about the Sabbath Day. We had a great
lesson as we sat in the chapel together. This ward is great at helping
us out, but sometimes they overpower the lessons. It can be very
frustrating trying to control the lesson. We had a great time with
Delbert and the members that came bore simple, heartfelt testimonies
about the importance of the Sabbath. Delbert gets it and is committed
to live a more holy sabbath. He is still waiting for the divorce to go
thru. He's discouraged and wishes that it would hurry up so he could
get baptized. The Lord has a schedule for him.
I had the best/worst door slam of my mission so far this week. We
talked to this sweet lady in a wheelchair. She expressed how God had
always been her support and strength thru the struggles over the years
with her health and her husband. We spoke for about 5 minutes. She was
behind a screen door and we couldn't see her very well, all the sudden
we saw a huge figure come over to the door and say, "Move back!" I
thought he was trying to get an animal out of her way or somethings.
He then yelled at us, said goodbye, and slammed the door so hard in
our faces! Wow, I was not expecting that at all. As we walked away
dumbfounded we heard him yelling at the poor lady. Gosh, I felt so
terrible. I still think about that lady and pray that she is okay. I'm
grateful that I have such a good relationship with everyone around me.
I just hate contention and arguments. :(
We talked to this boy on the street and when we asked him if he
believed in God or a supreme being his reply was, "Yeah, Obama is the
ruler of the world and creator." haha I had to laugh. He was doped up
big time. We asked this kid what his purpose in life was and he said,
"To play video games for the rest of my life!" I love running into
people like this.
S. Kaufusi and I did a lot of knocking doors and visiting the less
active members in our ward this week. We are finding some people, but
no one is really stepping up to the plate yet. I know they are being
prepared and I can't wait to find them. It has been a humbling week to
say the least. :)
I love you all. I hope you have a great Memorial Day! We were supposed
to go to Crater Lake, but it snowed a bunch, so now we can't... I wish
the sun would come out sometime soon. :)

Week of Trials- May 22, 2011

This week seemed to be full of trials. I love those kinda weeks.
Delbert came back from his sister's funeral. He was so bummed and had
a really hard time with it. We taught him about the Law of Chastity.
He is still married to someone, but living with another lady that he
caretakes. He had to call a member of the mission presidency and he
has to wait to get his divorce to go thru before he can move forward
with his baptism. He also has to write a letter to the first
presidency because of his past... He was absolutely heartbroken when
he found out. Gosh, I feel so bad for him. To put some icing on the
cake, his son was riding his bike down the street and someone hit him
and tried to kill him. He is in the hospital with brain damage and
isn't sure if he is gonna make it. Delbert has gone thru so much
stuff. He is being tested right now. He is so strong. We asked him how
strong his faith was on a 1-10 scale. He said 20. He amazes me. We had
a good lesson with him and S. Kaufusi bore a strong testimony telling
him that Heavenly Father is gonna send him a miracle. We will continue
to meet with him and help him out.
We are finding and teaching people, but nothing really solid has come
of it yet. I kinda felt like we were going around in circles this
week. I realized that I need to have more faith that we can find
people that are ready to be taught and enter the waters of baptism.
There are about 9,000 people in this area, why can't we find people?
The Lord knows my heart and my desires and I hope that we can continue
to work hard and be lead to those who are truly seeking the truth.
I got to go on exchanges with S. NELSON!!! Omg it was so much fun!! I
loved seeing her again! We got to teach this girl Krystal and she is
so solid. We taught her the plan of salvation. She asked all the right
questions. She said, "what kind of step do I need to take right now?"
Our reply, "be baptized!" She accepted. Wow. I love when things like
that happen. At the end of the lesson I told S. Nelson how badly I
wish I could be her comp again. We teach so well together and I miss
that. I know that I am with S. Kaufusi for a reason, and I am working
on teaching in unity with her. S. Nelson and I had a lot of fun and I
can't wait to see her again in 2 weeks at Zone Conference!
Stephanie Morelock sent me a wedding invitation. They are getting
married on the 4th. I am gonna see if I can head up to Eugene for the
wedding!! Steph wrote me and said that her and Omar believe I was sent
to Eugene for Steph. That melted my heart to hear that. I love her and
Omar and am so glad that I get to be friends with them!!
Today we get to go to the Wildlife Safari. We are teaching a man that
works there. He is taking us behind the scenes with all the bears,
elephants, tigers, lions, cheetahs, and rhinos. I am so STOKED! Pics
will come next week!!
Love you all!!

To all my family and friends, my life has changed a lot in the past
week. My eyes have been opened to more hope, love, peace and joy!! I
love this gospel so much, can't even describe!
We met with Delbert last Monday night at the church. When we entered
the building he was on his knees crying... a rough, tough 54 year old
man on his hands and knees. I didn't know what to think. He spoke to
us and told us that he was so sorry that he couldn't meet with us for
about a week because his sister passed away on Mother's Day. It was
so sad to hear him as he talked about his sister and what she meant to
him. He hadn't seen her for many years and her death was unexpected.
As we talked with him we shared about hope, love and faith. Delbert is
so strong. He wants to do good and be better. He recognizes that he
has to change a lot, but he said that he is "willing to do whatever it
takes!" He again told us of the important to serve and help others.
The spirit was so strong as we shared our testimonies of the Savior.
The fellow shippers, the LaPorte's, are an amazing family! Bro LaPorte
also was addicted and went thru a lot in the first 30 years of his
life. He came clean, joined the church and is really a strength to
Delbert. Delbert just loves Bro LaPorte. He said "you treat me like
gold"! We all sat down in that church hallway and cried together. I
will never forget the spirit I felt and the things that I learned. It
is interesting to see others lives change, and in the same time, my
life changes. I'm so grateful for all the people that I have met. I
have learned so much about my Savior as I come to know people who live
Christ like lives. I hope I can continue to learn and grow as I go
thru life.
We had a lesson with this gramma, Bonnie. She is so sweet and nice. We
talked about Jesus and she piped up and told us all about Jesus, thru
song. haha, she yodeled to us, well she tried. It made me day to hear
her sing to us... we couldn't get her to stop. :)
This area is great. I love the people. I love teaching and tracting.
It is absolutely beautiful here! I had to wear my big coat, gloves,
boots and leggings this weekend. Will it ever warm up? I don't think
so, at least not for another few weeks. :(
One of my RC in Eugene, Stephanie, is getting married on the 4th of
June!! I am so excited for her and Omar! I don't know if I will be
able to go, but I know that when they go to the temple in October I am
so there!! It is amazing to see the progression of people even after I
leave my areas.
Well, I could go on and on about the wonderful experiences I have had,
but time won't allow. I want you all to know that this gospel changes
people. I have seen it over and over again. We need to be praying and
reading our scriptures DAILY. Go to church and attend all your
meetings. I know this is what God wants us to do. As we obey we are
blessed. I have a testimony of this. I know that is how we find pure
happiness. Love everyone you see. Share the gospel!!

Family and Friends!
I just want you to all know how much I LOVE you!! It was so much fun
to call home and visit with each of you. We made our phone calls at the
Anderson's home. They have a son on a mission and so they called him
while we talked to our families. It was cool to see the opposite end
of families and hearing from their missionaries. I came down the
stairs after the phone call and Sister Anderson could tell that I had a
hard time hanging up. She said, "Here is a mother's hug for your mom
and we can imagine our families and our missionaries at the same
time." That was so sweet of her to give me a big hug and we just sat
and cried together. haha, I'm such a baby! :) I am doing better now.
It was great to hear all of your voices and to listen to all the happy
things that you are all apart of. Crew made me laugh, every time I
asked him a question he would say huh? or what?, it was hilarious.
Know how much you all mean to me and I am so grateful for such an
amazing family!!! You are all the best!
Myrtle Creek is amazing!! I love it hear. It is so green and lush. We
are in a valley with lots of trees. I will be taking lots of pics and
will send them asap. S. Kaufusi is from Tonga and is so great. We
basically like to laugh a lot... a lot a lot. :) It is great to be
with comps that are so willing and ready to work hard, but like to
have fun while doing it. We tracted a lot in the rain and we had so
much fun, even when we got drenched and no one wanted to talk to us.
We are teaching so many people right now. This guy Delbert is going to
be baptized next month. He has a very interesting story. He calls
himself "the protector". He is tough and really rough. He even beat
someone up for us cause they were saying bad things about the Mormons.
He has a violent past and is working on holding back his anger. It's
been amazing to see how the Gospel of Jesus Christ has helped him
become a better person. He had a dream last week before I got here
about 3 different paths. One went down, one went to the side and one
went uphill. The 2 went to hell and the other went to a beautiful
place. He said that his life was going downhill and he believes that
with this church, his life will go uphill. It has been amazing to hear
his testimony and feel of his spirit. He always says, "What are we
gonna learn today? I'm ready to rock n roll!" haha, Oh Delbert.
This couple, Chris and Nacole are trying to quit smoking. We set a
baptismal date with them this weekend. When we went over to their home
last night they posted a NO SMOKING sign on their front door! So
cool!! Nacole is gonna have a baby in a week. They want to teach her
about God and Jesus and have found so much good in the church and want
to be apart of it. When we invited them, Chris said that they had
already discussed it together and that is what they want. We have to
jump thru some hoops cause Nacole is still married to someone else and
Chris is on parole for another 15 months. Pray for them.
We went to visit a lot of potentials this weekend. We talked to this
guy Rex. He invited us into his SMALL trailer. It stunk like weed,
pretty sure that is what he was smoking and blowing in my face. It was
absolutely disgusting. After we got out S. Kaufusi and I just laughed
and said that we got high from being in that place. Interesting people
I tell ya. Another guy asked us if it was required for us to wear
boots, if we still could marry 200 women and if we were a cult, clan
or club. haha.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to see so many people change their
life to gain something better. When we obey the commandments, we are
free. As I thought about all my blessings yesterday, I couldn't help
but feel so overwhelmed by all the support and love that you have all
given me. I couldn't do this work without that. I've learned that we
can overcome all things. That is why God sent his son. He knew we
couldn't do it alone. He loves us.
Thanks again for everything. I loved talking to you all!! Be good and
stay happy. Send some sun up here if you would :)

May 2, 2011

This week has been really tender. I am leaving my home Sweet Home
tomorrow! I am so sad to leave all the people that I love so much! I
am going to Myrtle Creek... back down south again. I get to be comps
with SISTER KAUFUSI!!! Oh my goodness I am so excited to be with her.
She is from Tonga and is freaking hilarious. I'm glad that PMac trusts
us enough to be together... haha, we have lots of fun when we are
together :) It is such a strange feeling to be leaving this area. I
have been here for 6 months and have come so close to the ward. I got
to bear my testimony yesterday and just cried and thanked them for
taking care of me. Yesterday at church was so amazing!! So many
wonderful things happened and the spirit was so strong. A man in the
ward passed away suddenly and it was a big shock. My heart went out to
his family! I was weepy the last few days, especially on Sunday when
so many people talked about this wonderful man that served. loved,
smiled and lived the gospel. He was a hard worker that finished his
life well. As I sat and listened, it made me ponder about life and how
very precious this time is. We only have a short time to do what is
right so that we can go back to our Heavenly Father. I know that I can
be with my family forever. I know that Christ died for me so that I
could one day have eternal life. We also got to hear Huck Thomas bear
his testimony. Wow, he sounded like a longtime member. He encouraged
each of us to read our scriptures daily so that we could answer
questions when non-members bring up the church. He thanked us all for
living the gospel and being examples, because that is what helped him
find the church. He said that we all need to be humble and cherish the
things that we have in life. I am so happy that I got to hear his
testimony one last time!! I will miss that family soooo much!! Jessi
just kept giving me hugs all day. When we finally left she just
latched onto me and wouldn't let go. They are so special to me! We had
dinner with them on Saturday and it was a great time to know them more
and share experiences of how we gained our testimonies.
I've learned so much in this area. My time hear has been amazing and I
will never forget all the wonderful people, experiences, challenges
and joys! I'm excited to implement what I have learned here in Myrtle
Creek.
We've been teaching Al, and he told us that he wanted to get baptized
this month!! Yippee! We got to pour out his coffee pot and he is
working on quitting smoking. He is such a character!! We taught about
the priesthood and went round and round in circles about it. He is
finally understanding that the gospel has been restored and that
things were lost, but thru a prophet we have it on the earth again.
I'm excited for him to make those covenants and find more in his life!

I love you all. I love being a missionary. I love the gospel, each day
I learn I am happier.
