June 27, 2011

Yesterday we had an amazing miracle!! We had about 15 minutes before
an apt and decided to knock on some doors. As we were getting out of
our car we saw a lady standing on her porch. We were about to go talk
to her when a lady came out from the house we were parked in front of.
She asked us what we were doing. She wasn't interested, but said we
could park our car there. When we turned around to visit the other
lady, she was gone. We started walking down the street, knocked on
some doors, talk to uninterested people and started to head back to
the car. The lady on her porch was outside again, so we walked up and
told her who we were. She said for us to wait a second. She went
inside. I was thinking, "oh great, she is gonna go grab her bible and
try to bash with us!" She invited us up onto her porch. I was praying
to know if we should go up or not. Immediately I felt a peace come
over me and I felt so calm. I was so glad that Heavenly Father
answered me just when I needed it!! Lisa is an amazing woman that has
gone through A LOT in the last 4 years. Her son was run over by a
drunk driver and it left him with a brain injury(his head had about 30
staples). During his recovery he was hanging out with some buddies.
They wanted to know if he had any vicadin. He didn't have pain
medication that they wanted. Well these boys were drunk and they
started pushing him around. The boys had bought some brass knuckles 3
days before and when he didn't have what they wanted, they pounded his
skull. They beat him up. A little while later he died. It was a
horrible story. She also said that the boys father had a heart attack
during the funeral and he died. Awful!! She was crying and told us how
suicidal she was. Both S.Kaufusi and I were bawling and telling her
how God sent us to her. She asked us "will I get to see my son again!"
Wow, it was so amazing!! We get to meet with her tonight!!! The other
really cool thing about this is that about an hour before we found
her, both S, Kaufusi and I were saying how we wanted to be an answer
to someones prayer! Prayers were answered!!
We had to drop/ bench all of our investigators last week. None were
progressing. It was really hard and sad, especially cause we didn't
have anyone to teach. It was a huge leap of faith for us to ask the
Lord for direction and he has guided us little by little.
Destiny's lesson went good. Her little girls are so adorable and ask a
billion questions. haha. Destiny remembered a lot of the things we
taught. She went out of town this weekend, but we get to see her
tomorrow!
I have made a goal to not worry about the small things in life and be
happy. It's changed me and helped me not to complain so much. I love
this work and this area. We had a great meeting this week as we
discussed how the Lord can put people in our paths that are truly
ready to accept the gospel. I felt so overwhelmed with the spirit and I
know people are being prepared right NOW. We had the opportunity to go
into many members homes and invite them to do missionary work NOW. We
can not wait. We need to invite everyone. The savior says in Mormon
9:22... we need to preach the gospel to every creature.
My testimony was strengthened this last week as I prepared to speak in
church. I got to reflect on the story in Alma 47. Amalikiah poisons
Lehonti. Lehonti comes down and lowers himself and is killed because
of it. I thought about all the things that have kept me on higher
ground. Prayer, Scripture Study, Church Attendance and FHE. We need
all of these!! I'm so glad that I was faithful to these things before
I came on my mission. That is what really helped prepare me to serve a
misson. I now get to teach people how following this leads to
happiness, preparedness and blessings after blessings!! It is truly
amazing! We can't come down and lower our expectations, standards,
values or beliefs for anything!! I'm glad I had such good parents who
stood on top of the mountain and kept me protected and gave me things
to shield me from the enemy that comes knocking at my door and tempts
me to go down.
President MacDonald and Sister MacDonald will be leaving tomorrow
morning. I am so sad!! We get to meet President and Sister Young on
Thursday. A little nervous, but excited to see the changes that will
occur in the mission.
Thank you for all who have written me... I appreciate it soooo much!!
I hope that you all have a wonderful week!! Mine will be good. :)

June 20, 2011

This week was interesting to say the least. We got to meet some really
cool, weird, funny and lost people. I thought that by the end of the
week everything was gonna crash and burn, but it didn't and it never
will. As long as the Savior is on our side, we can never fail.
We went to visit this girl Jamie. She used to meet with missionaries
and we asked if she wanted to continue to learn. She was outside with
4 men. They were all drinking and partying. I was a little nervous to
be around them, okay really nervous, so I tried to keep my distance.
She was super nice and asked if we could come back next week when her
17 year old son was home cause she wanted him to learn. Before we
left, those 4 men started to talk with us. One guy was Hindu and he
told us of his cousin that is a Monk and how all of us need to do
that. Another guy kept yelling, "are you mad at me? Why aren't you
talking to me? I'm so sorry I don't go to church." A guy also came up
to us and shook our hands and told us he was a mormon, but wasn't
living like he should. He apologized over and over again. The last guy
insisted that we tell him we were Jehovah's Witnesses. I wanted to get
out of there asap. As we were walking away, the Hindu asked us if we
would go on a date with him. He LOVED S. Kaufusi and told her that she
was so beautiful and loved brown people (he was brown too). He looked
at me and told me "no offense, I just love the dark skin. You are
beautiful too!!" He tried to get one of the men to hand him a pen so
he could call us after our missions. Man, it was hilarious, but I'm so
glad we got outta that sit.
All of our investigators canceled on us this week. It was a huge
bummer. We knocked on a lot of doors this week. Last night I just
wanted to find someone so bad. At 8:30pm we found Destiny and Nathan.
They have 2 little girls and just moved into there house 3 weeks ago.
Nathan was in the ARMY and has studied many different religions. He
isn't interested in anything right now, but he wants his girls to
learn. His gf or wife, Destiny, has been to the church growing up. Her
mom is really active on the coast. We get to meet with her and her
little girls this week. I was so glad that Heavenly Father answered
our prayers.
This week I learned a lot about patience and diligence. I know that
even if people don't listen, it still helps me. I am building my
character and strengthening my testimony each time I talk with
someone. Yes, I can help other people, but in the end I am truly
learning more about myself than anything else. God has poured out his
richest blessings to my comp and I. I feel so happy to have the
gospel. It gives me strength to keep moving forward. One elder taught
me that we can't fully apply the Atonement until we are "at one" with
all of God's children. We have to love everyone and love ourselves.
There is no reason to have contention or anger. God wants us to love
him and love our neighbors.. that is the great commandment.
I hope everyone is having a good summer!! Happy Father's Day to all
the Father's around the world! I love my Dad! He is the greatest! :)

We all met together for Zone Conference for one last goodbye to
President and Sister MacDonald. I'm SOOO SAD that they are leaving!! I
cried and cried. We had a great meeting with them. We sang God Be With
you Till we Meet Again for the closing song. We all turned and faced
PMac. It was so hard to sing that song. We were all in tears. We got
to give PMac a hug before they left. I am so grateful that I got to
spend the bulk of my mission with them. They have changed my life in
more ways than I can even imagine. I am so grateful for the wonderful
servants of the Lord they are and I will remember them forever. I'm
glad they only live in UT so I will get to see them again. :)
After the conf I got to go say hi to my RC, Lehenekr!!! It was so good
to see her. She hasn't been going to church cause she doesn't feel
worthy cause of her struggle with suicide. I bore my testimony and
told her she needed to go back to church. It was hard to see her not
doing so well. I hope that gives her a little push in the right
direction. It was so crazy to be back in my first area in Central
Point. It felt like I hadn't been there in years!! It brought back so
many fun memories of my greenie days. :) Ones that I probably wouldn't
want to go back too. We also got to go on exchanges, yep I went with
S. Nelson of course. We had a blast again. I can't get enough of that
girl. We do missionary work so well together, it kills me that we
aren't comps anymore. She is great!!
S. Kaufusi and I are staying together for another transfer. Her little
sister got her mission call to Washington last week and they will miss
each other by 2 weeks. She is super sad that she won't be able to see
her for 3 years. I'm glad I get to work with her still. We have a lot
to do together and I'm ready for the good and the bad.
So we found this lady Janice this week. She came to church yesterday
and I thought she was gonna jump out of her seat and start praising
Jesus! She kept saying amen and hallelujah! haha. I love this lady!
She calls me Smiles. She was taught about 6 months ago and is now in a
place for her to really progress in the gospel. She has such a strong
testimony of Jesus Christ and recognizes the spirit all the time. We
are excited to continue to teach her!
We also began teaching this boy Coda, also a former investigator. He
told us that he was scared to get baptized cause he didn't want to
make a mistake. I'm so grateful that we were able to find out his
concerns, teach to his needs and help him understand the importance of
repentance in each of our lives.
Delbert got his divorce papers, so we are on the next step with him.
We stopped by the other day and saw this man crawling down the street.
He was too drunk to stand up. Well about 5 minutes into talking with
Delbert, this guy was standing at my car window. It freaked me out so
bad!! He wanted to get inside the car. Good thing it was locked and my
window was up. Delbert yelled at him to step away from the car and go
home. Jeepers, it was kinda scary! I'm so glad that Delbert is
stepping away from that lifestyle and making a new, clear and happy
path.. the Saviors path.
This week has been better. The ward has started to give us people to
go see. I'm so glad that my knowledge of the gospel has increased each
day. I love his work and love the changes I experience. I love you
all!!!

Hey Fam
As I read Cedar's email I just had to laugh at his letter. He said "so
yep- this week was tough. thats the only honest way to say it. while
you guys were all in cali, my comp and i were trucking it up and down
our area getting rejected and rejected some more." My week was pretty
much the same. I didn't know if I was gonna make it thru. Phew. We
tracted yesterday for a good chunk of the day. At one street there
were 3 people in a row that slammed the door and said some not nice
things. I about lost it. I feel so bad that people don't want to hear
what we have to say. I just kept praying and praying that Heavenly
Father would lead us to some people to teach. I have faith that we can
find, but it might take longer than I would like.
Our investigators pretty much all dropped us this week. Delbert is the
only one that we are really teaching, but he is still waiting for his
divorce to go thru. When he came to the lesson on Thursday night he
was super drunk. He was slurring his words, couldn't walk straight and
couldn't read anything out of the Book of Mormon. I hope that he can
get over his addictions.
We met this guy Taras and taught him 2 times. The 2nd lesson he told
us that he didn't believe anything that men write, so he doesn't
believe the Bible because men are flawed. He went on to talk about
Adam and Eve and about the creations and God. I couldn't understand
where he was getting all of this knowledge because it was all out of
the Bible. We asked him during the 1st lesson if he read the Bible, he
said no. The 2nd lesson we asked him again, and he said he read it 20
times or more. It was a frustrating lesson. We told him that the only
was he was going to know was if he prayed and asked God. When we
invited him to, he said nope. We left his house and are not going
back. I can't believe some peoples arguments.
Today we met this lady that investigated the church a few years back.
She invited us into her home and talked about how she found out that a
lady needed some help and prayed to God for a Christian person to come
and help. We knocked on the door only after 15 minutes. She talked
about the importance of listening to the spirit and not letting other
things guide us in the wrong direction. Anyways, she gave us this
ladies info and I'm excited to get a hold of her. Before we left, we
asked if we could pray with her. The lady raised her hands up in the
air and praised Jesus as she spoke. It was great. :)
Amongst all the rejection and great lessons :) I got to go to
Springfield/ Eugene for the wedding of Steph and Omar Farah!! OMG it
was so great to see them!! I told Omar that I would be coming, but
Steph had NO idea. I totally surprised her. They both looked fabulous.
The wedding was outside on a cloudy, but warm day. We didn't get to
stay that long, but I was so happy I was able to attend. They looked
so happy and I know they will be even happier when they get sealed
next year.
I got to go with Sister Britton for exchanges. We had a way cool
experience. We were tracting and I felt like we needed to walk further
down and maybe even to a different street. We walked around and came
to a cross road. As we looked both ways we didn't know where we needed
to be. I saw a person peeking above a car and decided to go that way
to talk to them. The lady, Marguarite let us sit down with her and
talk. She was from Germany and knows a bit about the church. She was
so sweet and we taught the 1st lesson. She is excited to learn more.
That experience really helped me to see that God answers prayers and
he sets people in our paths. I am determined to find those elect that
God is preparing for me to meet this week!!
I love you all. I am doing great. We went back to the Wildlife Safari
today. I love the giraffes. :)
Tomorrow is Zone Conf. President and Sister MacDonald are leaving on
the 20th, so this will be my last time to see them. I'm gonna cry!! I
love them so much and am so grateful for the wonderful things they
have taught me. They made a HUGE impact on me and I will be forever
grateful for their service in the OEM.
