December 27, 2010

It was so great to call home and talk to you family!! I was really
nervous leading up to noon, but felt so good when I heard all of your
voices. I could picture you all in the front room hanging out and it
felt like I was just down the street. I loved hearing about the fun
things you are all doing.. thanks for the updates. I was so glad that
I got to talk with Ceds for a few minutes, glad that i got to surprise
him. That was a blessing to hear his voice... I didn't cry too much
either! I had a good rest of the day. Well.... kinda awkward. haha.
We went to a families house to say hello ( we were supposed to have
dinner with them, but had to cancel cause we had to be in Corvallis at
6pm). It was super awkward. I didn't know the family and I felt like a
loser just stopping by on them. They were making xmas dinner and it
was just weird. We jetted out as fast as we could. We had about 3
hours until we had to leave, so we decided to go early to Corvallis
and walk around campus or something, but we forgot our coats and it
was raining. We ended up going into Safeway and buying a bagel and
some Martinelli's. We are our bagels in the car. We didn't have a
bottle opener so we had to pry it open with some keys. The bottle kept
oozing out and it was sticky and all over our pants and hands. It was
mess... but it was a xmas dinner that I will always remember :). That
night we played SPEED with the elders, had a white elephant gift
exchange and then made mini smores with some lighters. It was a great
day. I was worried that it would distract me from the work, but on
Sunday we got down to business and it was a great day.
Homer is still getting baptized on the 8th of January. We are stoked
for him. One of our RC- Luke, has been fellowshipping him and
hopefully will get to baptize Homer--that would be sweet!!
I feel more settled about Transfers now. Sister Abbott will be a great
addition to Sweet Home. We are going to be in a trio only for 6
weeks... I just know that we will have a blast. I am so glad that
Sister Nelson is going to be staying with us too. So we had to
rearrange our room. We have 2 beds and a trundle bed, 3 desks, a huge
entertainment Center... all in a room that is 20x 25 sq ft. haha, we
are gonna be super tight this transfer.
I feel so blessed to have it so good. I love being a missionary right
now. Sometimes I feel like I am living a dream and that everyone's
life is on pause. I have had some amazing experiences this week and I
am grateful that prayers have been answered. The Lord is very aware of
the people in Sweet Home and lives are being changed.
Thanks again for all the xmas cards and packages. I had a wonderful
xmas!! I love you all... have a Happy New Year!!

Merry Christmas!!

Hey all!! Merry Christmas... I am so looking forward to calling home.
Will be a great present!
This week was great. We went on exchanges and I got to go with Sister
Abbott!! We had a blast talking about good ol Central Point and
Goldhill again. We found this sweet guy, Homer, while tracting. His
step mom is a less active member of the church. We gave him a tour of
the church on Friday. He showed up in a white shirt, black pants, and
a xmas tie. WOW that was sweet!! He came to church and the xmas devo
last night for the ward. He is solid.. gonna be baptized in the
beginning of January.
We had a challenge with the seminary students this past week.... Who
could pass out the most Book of Mormons in a week. 22 Seminary kids
vs. Sister Nelson and I. The kids handed out 17 BOM!!! I was soooo
proud of them, especially seeing that they beat us by 3. It was great
to here of the stories of giving them out to the people they truly
loved and cared about. They even had stipulations about handing them
out... they had to explain it, bear testimony and invite them to read
it. Those kids are AWESOME!! They KNOW how to do missionary work. We
lost so we brought them breakfast on Saturday. If we won, then they
would all have to get up and bear their testimonies on fast sunday...
I still hope some of them will. Most of the kids said that the friends
they talked with were really excited to read it. One boy tried to give
out 5 and was rejected all 5 times. The last person he tried to give
it to told him that "I would burn it if you gave that to me." He
pushed thru the rejection and is still looking to give someone a BOM
before the end of the year. Sweet!! They all were positive and we
talked about the importance of inviting. That is all that we can do.
That is where the success lies. It was a great experience for me to
see that missionary work can be done as a normal person too. They are
awesome examples to me. :)
So last night was one of the greatest things I have ever done in my
whole life. I read the Book of Mormon from 8pm- 3:30am last night. It
took me 7 1/2 hours to do it, but I finished front to back. It was
AMAZING!! I had some great experiences. I love the Book of Mormon. My
testimony grew so much in one night. I didn't think that I could do
it, but I stuck threw and did it. Thanks to some carrots, popcorn and
starbursts. We made some pretty funny videos thru it all cause we were
super tired. S Nelson did it in 9 hrs. I was grateful to do it and I
will remember that experience for the rest of my life. If you haven't
read the BOM before, do it!! It will change your life. I love it so
much.
Well I am looking forward to Christmas. I have loved reflecting on my
Savior and the things that I have been given in my life. It is such a
great time to be on a mission. I love the work, I love the Lord, I
love my family, and I love all of you!! I hope you all have a very
Merry Christmas and remember the reason of CHRISTmas. !! XOXO

December 13, 2010

Hey!
So this week was great! We tracted more this week than I have in a
LONG time, but it was great. I needed that.
We went over to Brant and April's last night.. btw they are from
Showlow... and we made stop smoking signs to put up all over the house.
We brought them grapefruit juice, mouthwash, gum and vitamin C. They
are really excited to start to stop. haha. They made some funny signs.
Brant was way into it. He had some that said.. "I don't want Cancer"
"Do it for your kids" Smoking Sucks" "Get rid of that Death Stick" It
was so fun to be over there. The boys, Brayden (15) and Maceo (6) also
made signs. I love being around them. I have been able to see a change
in them over the last 3 weeks that I have been here. It is truly
amazing what the gospel can do for people. That makes me so happy. So
they officially started last night, pray for them. They are gonna need
it!! I know they can do it. They want to quit so bad, but the
addiction is terrible. The next few weeks might be rough, but it was
awesome to talk about Faith and Jesus Christ with them. They are
praying and reading the Book of Mormon. They want to change so they
can be baptized, so sweet!
We got some referrals in the ward this week... actually like 10
referrals. One of them was a for Thomas and Tiffany. He is a less
active member and hasn't been to church is years. Tiffany isn't a
member. We were sent over there to share a message with them about the
Atonement and the Plan of Salvation. We found out that she lost her
baby a week ago. She was 5 months pregnant and her water broke. She
was very positive and held it together really well. We had an awesome
lesson with her. The spirit was super strong and I don't even remember
half the things that were said. It's lessons like those that I will
remember forever. We are going back this week to teach her and her 2
kids and reactivate the husband.
We had a challenge for the seminary students this week. We are trying
to see who can pass out the most BOM-- 22 students vs. S Nelson and I.
So far S Nelson and I are winning. It ends on thursday. It has been
great hearing about the stories of the kids giving them out. They were
all terrified to do it, but with lots of encouragement and prayer,
they are doing great. We read the talk Flooding the Earth with the
Book of Mormon by President Benson. I love that talk so much. I have
come to love the Book of Mormon as I study it each day. We are blessed
to have a guide book to life. We don't have to worry and wonder about
what we should do. Our Heavenly Father wants us to return to live with
him and the way to do it is available to each of us. I have come to
love sharing this message with everyone.
I am getting so excited for Xmas to come in less than 2 weeks. Can't
believe it is already here. Last time I called, I cried. I don't want
to do that again. I also don't want to talk about time, countdown to
when I come home or when I get home we are gonna.... I think that will
be too hard for me. K? Get your Q's ready for me and NO CRYING!! I
love you all so much and am so grateful to have a family that is so
awesome. I appreciate all that you do for me. This will be a Christmas
to remember :)

To my family and friends that I love!!
This week was a lesson on patience. I need to work on it more and
more. Not the best week I have had on my mission, doesn't help that
last week was at the top of the list either. We are trying to find
more people to teach, but we have some grinch's up here. I have
studied a lot about patience and having faith thru trials, I feel like
Heavenly Father was preparing me for this week cause it was kinda
dumpy. Most of our apt's canceled on us each day. We were left out in
the freezing cold to tract and find people... We found a couple people
and we look forward to teaching them this week. The longer I am out on
my mission the more I realize how much I need His help. I am nothing
without the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have been able to reflect and
ponder about the Savior and the precious knowledge of the gospel that
I have. I get to talk to people everyday and teach them the truth...
the best news in the world!! We spoke to a man this week that didn't
want anything to do with us, my heart hurt so much for him. I want
everyone to feel the joy that I have experienced. Prayers are heard
and answered. We were able to pray for an increase of charity and
love for the people in Sweet Home. It has been difficult, and Satan is
working so hard to get us to give up and go quit. I am grateful that I
have a testimony of the gospel that keeps me going no matter how hard
or difficult things are.
We are still teaching Brant and April... they are going to start the
stop smoking program this next week. I am super stoked for them!! Last
night we spoke with April and I can see such a change in her. They
came to church and loved it again!
We got to listen to the Christmas Devotional last night. I loved the
story that President Monson told about the star.
I am so glad that I get to be on a mission this Christmas, it is going
to be a good one for sure. My comp and I put up a little santa hat and
stocking up in our room. We also put up the Happy Holiday's sign on
our car. I have been listening to the Christmas music from gramma.
Lots of people have been putting up lights on their houses.... they
all look like gingerbread houses. I wish more would do it.
We started teaching a class on sunday. It is called M3. Missionary
Minded Members. It is a way for members to do missionary work. It was
so awesome!! We have 6 couple in the class. It is a 6 week course and
by the end of it they will invite someone to church, give out a BOM,
bear testimony and hopefully we will be able to teach them. I am so
excited that the ward is pumped about it. We have some solid couples
that are taking it really serious. I had a great experience as we all
knelt down and prayed individually for friends and family that they
could share the gospel with. So many things are going to come from
this class... good things :)!!
We are going to Eugene today... We are gonna eat at the Olive Garden
and hang out there. I am WAY excited.... tempted to call up Steph so I
can see her again. Both Sister Nelson and I served in Eugene so we
can't wait to go back and spend some time with all the crazies :)!! Oh
yeah btw... I LOVE MY DUCKS!!!! They are undefeated and beat Oregon
State this weekend. It is a huge rivalry here, so Sister Nelson and I
showed our support for Oregon and painted our finger nails green and
yellow. Can't wait for them to go to the National Championship and
win!! Whoo hoo!!!
Hope you all have a great week. I love and miss you all!!
Canny-- glad that you had such a good bday, you are so grown up. How
tall are you now??
Morgieshmorgie is Preggo!!!! holy smokes I can't wait to see the
little Borgia baby when I come home!! Yippeeee congrats cousie!!!!

November 29, 2010

I had the best day of my mission so far on Saturday!!
Leading up to Saturday was kinda crappy. We had to cancel a lot of our
appointments cause Sister Nelson and I have been sick with this
miserable cold that will not go away!! Bug!! It was caused by the fact
that we woke up Tuesday morning with a couple inches of snow!! We got
up early and played in it. We made snowwomen and put our nametags on
them. It was soooo much fun! I was a Popsicle when I came inside.
This week has been so chilly. I have learned to layer my clothes
really good to try and stay warm! So Thanksgiving on Thursday was
alright. We were supposed to have dinner with a family, but we
couldn't get a hold of them. We ended up eating at a recent converts
house. It was weird to only have dinner with 4 people. I definitely
missed being around family, food and games. It was okay though. Later
that day we went to the Egberts house! They have 3 girls who are all
so much fun... they like the idea that I have 4 cute brothers at home
:) We played games with them, ate pie and watched Toy Story 3! What a
cute movie! We were gonna watch the Last Song, but then we found the
other. The ending was kinda sad, I was teary eyed. I was glad that we
got to hang with them! Emily, the oldest, is 18, she comes out with us
a lot. At the end of the day I couldn't help but feel so blah. We
didn't work and we wasted the day. I love being able to work my butt
off, it was not the best day of my mission... at all.
BUT Saturday was soooo amazing!! It all started when Luke got
baptized! He has been investigating for a while now. He completely
changed his life around and it was great to see him get baptized. 2 of
the priests in the ward sang Be still my soul for the intermission,
they did a fab job. I love being at baptisms. The spirit was super
strong!! Luke's family all came to support him. His sister is in the
ward and we found out another one of his sisters is a member. Half are
now members, we are excited to help the rest of his family. So after
that baptism Emily drove us down to Eugene!!!!! I got to go back for
Kevin and Robin's baptism!! Oh my it was amazing!! I loved seeing them
again. They were all so glad that I came back for it! I was literally
floating on a cloud as I watched them go under the water and come up
so clean. I was so grateful to be apart of their life and see the
change that took place as I was able to teach them! I am also so glad
that president let me come back for the night. I also got to see
Stephanie and Omar again!! I love them sooooo much. They will be my
best friends forever! I ran down the hall and gave her a big hug when
I saw her. She just had this big grin on her face. I also got to see
my fav family again, the Petersens. Man, I loved it so much!!
President came to the baptism. He had me take a little walk with him.
He asked me how I felt. I couldn't even explain to him how happy I
was. I was smiling from ear to ear. I told him that it was the best
day of my mission. He told me that this is what missionary work was
about, finding those families. He told me to do it again in Sweet
Home. That is what I am doing. S Nelson and I have a magnificent
obsession of finding a family for Christmas. It will be awesome!!
My prayers were answered Saturday night. At the beginning of my time
in Eugene I was praying for a family that would unite the ward
together. That prayer was answered by Kevin and Robin's family! Yaya
is still getting baptized on Christmas. What a wonderful thing this
will be for their family. In a year they get to go to the temple and
be sealed as a family forever!! This is what missionary work is about.
I feel so blessed to be apart of this wonderful work. So many
miracles!
I love being a missionary. It was such a good day! It got me even more
excited to get out and work to find people that are ready in Sweet
Home!!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. X-mas is coming up, give
the best gift, the gospel!
I hope you all have a great week!! I would love to hear from you all :)

Happy bday Cannon!!!! Hope it is a good day full of lots of surprises
and kisses haha, BIG 16!!!!!

November 22, 2010

So the transfer was rough. I cried like a baby when I had to leave.
The elders in the transfer van were so scared to say a peep to me. As
we were driving away I realized that I should be happy to go to a new
area, meet new people and share the gospel with the people in Sweet
Home. I thought a lot about my area and the miracles that I was able
to see. I learned so many things from the people and my comp. BUT I
LOVE Sweet Home!! I was really nervous that I would hate the area and
just want to go back to Eugene, but I absolutely love it. Plus my
comp, Sister Nelson is bomb! Her and I get along great and we have so
much fun! She is from Houston, Texas... I haven't had a comp from Utah
yet.. haha!! She likes sports and we are the same kinda person. I love
talking with her and we work super hard!! We taught more lessons this
week than I ever have in my mission. So many people are prepared in
Sweet Home, it's great!!
First off, I know that I was sent here for a reason.. first being the
Dablos- Udiarte Family!! It is a really long story and lots of
backtracking in order to tell the story, but in short. We talked to
people, got referrals and found this sweet family!! The day we finally
contacted them we had 30 minutes to spare and they invited us in and
we talked about the Book of Mormon. We went back and asked them if
they read and they did!! Hallelujah! The mom said that she started
crying when she started reading, she said that "maybe that was my
answer to know it is true." It felt so good to be with there family!
The ward had a Thanksgiving dinner and they came and were
fellowshipped by everyone. It was great! I wish I had more time to
tell the cool story, but I will get a chance someother time. I just
know that the Lord was guiding us and giviing us the strength to
everyone that we saw so that we could find this family!
Luke has been investigating for about 7 months and is getting baptized
this Saturday which is really cool. He is kinda a goofy guy, but he
loves the gospel and has a testimony. Oh yeah.... the Elders in Santa
Clara called me on my bday and told me that Kevin and Robin are
getting baptized on the 27th... Saturday!! I am so stoked cause I get
to go back to Eugene for the baptism!! The daughter, Yaya is getting
baptized on Christmas by her dad Kevin.... so tight!! I love that
fam!!
We had so many investigators at church yesterday. The Lord has really
blessed this area. I am grateful to be here. Endless amount of
miracles already and more coming.
My birthday was good. I got my package on Wednesday and Sister Nelson
hid it so I couldn't open it until Saturday morning. Thank you so much
for it!! I loved the outfit!! The night before I left Eugene,
Stephanie and Omar took me out to Beppe and Gianni's Italian
Restaurant.... sooooo gooooodd!! They got me cake and cupcakes and
sang happy bday to me. They also gave me a gift card, so I bought some
boots, my feet are nice and warm now. The whole zone sang happy bday
to me on friday. All in all it was a good day, we taught lots of
lessons, I was glad I didn't have to tract on my bday :)! Thanks for
all the bday wishes, it meant a lot to me!
So it snowed yesterday. Yeah, snow!!! Not really, it is super cold
here and will only get colder. It's in the 20's, 30's and 40's. I wish
I was in AZ weather.
Sweet Home is great. Not much to do here. Everyone smokes, no one is
married, and they live off the govt. BUT I love it still! There is a
lot of work to do, but I am so excited!! We only have one ward and
they are so great!! They all want to help. The youth are rockstars,,,
they always invite friends to mutual and church. We take the laurels
with us on apts. The work is great!!! I have been able to focus on the
work and that has kept me busy so I don't think about Eugene.
Hope everyone has a great Turkey Day. Don't get hurt playing football,
eat lots of pie and the next day have fun shopping and eating turkey
sandwiches!!!

November 15, 2010

Thanks for the letter mom, it made me cry!! This week has been full of so many emotions....
First off, Emma's baptism was amazing!! She is just an amazing little girl with so much love for the gospel. She wants to do everything right and good. Her mom gave such a wonderful talk about baptism. The spirit was so strong. As I was watching Emma, tears were streaming down her cheeks. She knew that this was something that she needed to do. Heavenly Father was definitely smiling that day. Emma's brothers, Cole and Easton gave the talk on the Holy Ghost. They love Emma so much and are proud of her. Cole is not a member and he was very touched by the baptism, I hope that he will get baptized soon!! I was so grateful to be apart of this families life. They have come a LONG way in the last couple weeks and Emma's decision to be baptized has really helped their family get back into the church.
When I first arrived in Santa Clara and Junction City I was so excited because I realized that I would be able to be here for my birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas... plus I get to be with a comp that I love dearly. Well that plan was shattered on Saturday. President came to Emma's baptism and said, "You know you are getting transferred right??" The few days before this I had been hearing rumors that we were getting whitewashed (elders coming into a sister's area). I didn't want it to happen. We have so many people preparing and have been prepared for baptism. As I heard President MacDonald say this, I was able to feel at peace and know that he is inspired and that this will be okay. So there you have it... I am being transferred tomorrow at 10am. At least I know where I am and who my comp is. I am heading a little North of Eugene to Sweet Home. My comp will be Sister Nelson, I have met her a few times, seems very sweet. I have been very sad and happy all at the same time. I have had a rough time saying goodbye to people, especially Brad, Jackie, Kevin, Robin, Stephanie, and a huge long list of people in the wards that have been so great! I haven't actually cried until I started reading your letter mom and then as I type about leaving it makes me sooooo sad! I love this area, I love the people and I did not want to spend my bday, thanksgiving and christmas in a new area. The elders that are coming are so awesome though. Elder Bauer was the Assistant and will finish his mission in the area. Elder Nygren is pretty new, but he is also excellent. If anyone is going to take over the area, I am grateful that they are. I spoke to E Bauer last night about the area. He is so excited to come and work hard. He feels bad that we are leaving in such a crucial time of our investigators progression, and is sorry to take over at the peak. I have trying to stay positive and I KNOW that everything will work out, it will just be hard. Mission transfers are not cool, but I know I will love Sweet Home!! S Stoehr served there, so she has been telling me all about it. S Stoehr is going to CENTRAL POINT!! I am so excited for her to go to my baby area! We have been talking about all the people and investigators and recent converts. I think it is a good thing that we both know that each of us will love our areas where we serve cause I loved Central Point and she loved Sweet Home.
So we went to Brad and Jackie and said goodbye. They are kinda upset that elders are coming, but we told them to keep in contact and that the elders would do wonderful things. We said that "when" they get baptized, we will come back for it. I will miss them so much.
Kevin and Robin were out of town for the past few days, but they got back last night so we could go say goodbye. I am bummed that we can't teach them anymore, but since I am only about 40 minutes away, I get to come back for the baptism! The Elders said they would be updating us with all the people so we know what is going on.
I feel so grateful to have been here for 3 short months. I feel like I just got here!! I have learned so much about myself and my comp has taught me a lot! I am grateful for the friendships that I have made, I know they will last forever :)!! Although change is hard, I learn and grow. I am excited to get to Sweet Home and work hard. I will love all my areas so much!!
I hope everything is well back in Mesa! I miss you all so much!! Since I am being transferred right before my bday, S Stoehr and I are celebrating it today. We are going bowling with the elders and gonna have fun on our last day here!!! Stephanie is really upset that we are leaving, but her and Omar and talking me out to dinner for a bday dinner tonight! I don't want to say goodbye to her! We have been such good friends :)!! I just hope that I am close to Eugene when they get married in the next few months and around when they go to the temple next October!!
Tonight we are going to say goodbye to Emma. She was so glad that we were here for her baptism. The ward has really taken the family under their wings and I know they will be okay! Saying goodbye's are crappy. Sorry if this email sounds depressing, it just caught me off guard. I am doing okay, I promise. Today is gonna be a blast!!
I love you all!! I miss you all like crazy, but I love being a missionary! I am excited to write next week and let you all know about the new area. Please pray for Elder Nygren and Elder Bauer as they come to the area on Wednesday!! Pray that they will pick up where we left off, they will see miracles in this area!!

Hello family and friends!
I am emailing kinda early-- we have A LOT of things to do today!
I am looking forward to Emma's baptism on Saturday. She is SOOO excited. Every time I see her she has a HUGE grin on her face. She is this cute red headed, freckle faced girl. I love her so much! She was so excited to get her program all assigned-- I don't think she is going to sleep very much this week or maybe at all on Friday night. Last night she was dancing around the room :). I love seeing the change in people as they make steps, keep commitments and beam with the Light of Christ. Her family is very supportive of her and they are thrilled that she has made the decision to get baptized!
Kevin and Robin are still progressing towards baptism. We went over to talk with them a few night ago and Kevin left early. I was kinda bothered that he left in the middle, especially cause we were talking about baptism. I later realized that he left cause he didn't want to put any pressure on Robin. Kevin told us that he is ready to get baptized and has been ready for about 2 weeks. He wants Robin to be baptized too, but knows that she will be ready when the time is right. We helped Robin clean out her garage and move things into their house. Last night Robin told us that she feels ready to be baptized. The last time she took the lessons she felt she was just doing it for her family, but this time is completely different. She told us of her experience... in her words: "I struggle with my faith. I never know if it is really God helping me or if it is just coincidence. I have always gone back and forth between science and evolution and having an actual God. Well I made a deal with God. I told him that if he was real, that he would show me by sending someone to me. Well then, you showed up. I have thought a lot about this and their is no scientific answer that will back it up. I know that he answered my prayer." YESSSS!!! It was amazing to hear that from her! We spoke to her about faith and her eyes were opened and she learned so much. They are praying about the date in November... I kinda jokingly told Kevin that we could have a baptismal service for him in a couple days.. haha! I love this family so much. They have been so amazing to teach. I learn so much from their family. They have so much strength and power and they teach their kids in righteousness. I am glad that I met them :)
I got a call from Sister Longhurst in Central Point this week. She told me that Nate Baker got baptized!! I was so happy for him and his family! He was kinda cynical when I left and I guess he listened to General conference and was really touched by it. There family is working towards the temple and hopefully his 4 girls will get baptized with their mothers consent. I love hearing about my old area and getting to find out the work that is being done.
We had stake conference yesterday. It was a broadcast for 36 stakes in Oregon. We got to hear from Elder Pieper, Elder Hales, Sister Dalton and President Uchtdorf. I was grateful to hear from them. We also attended the adult session on Saturday night. I was able to listen to powerful testimonies about the Temple. I can't wait to go back!
We had a District meeting on Friday. The more and more I am on my mission the more I learn about service and love. Those two things have brought me where I am today. I reflect on the times when I have been so happy, and it is because I love the Lord. When we got baptized we covenanted with God that we would take upon ourselves the name of Christ. That means all of his attributes, qualities and characteristics. We ultimately become one with him-- the word atonement= at one faith. I am grateful for the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on my behalf. I make so many mistakes and I know that I can be free from those burdens, guilt and sorrow. I am here as a missionary to say the things that he would say, do the things that he would do and be the person that he is. I am grateful that he has given me the opportunity to serve among his children. What a joy it brings me to be here in Oregon! Thank you all for all that you do! I love hearing from you and appreciate the love and prayers!! Peace from Oregon... until next week :)!!!

November 1, 2010

Well I thought I would have some crazy stories to tell about Halloween in Eugene, but I saw maybe 5 people dressed up last night!!
Let me tell you all about my fantastic week!!
Last Monday we played dodge ball with our zone, about 30 missionaries. We also had a BBQ and played around the world pool... I killed them all! Dodge ball was so much fun. I was the only sister that would play, the elders can be a little bit rough. I had a blast though. The assistants came to play with us and I was loving it so much! I was pretty sore the next few days though... I don't use my shoulder like that very often!
Tuesday we had a lesson with Jamie. We gave her Book of Mormon on tape for her to listen too. She is really scared to leave her apartment. She told us that she lived on the streets, in shelters and in the woods for the last 12 years. It was so sad to hear about her past, things that I don't really want to know, but I know it helps her feel good talking about it and getting it out of her life for good. She is bipolar and has schizophrenia along with other things. I am glad that we are able to teach her and let her know about the Savior and how he truly heals us when we have faith in him, repent are baptized and receive the holy ghost. It has been great for us to be there for her. We taught Stephanie that night and had a wonderful lesson about the priesthood. I reflected on the priesthood and how it has helped me in my life. I am grateful for the lessons that help me and teach me. Missions are like that. I help out, but in the end, I am being helped more than anyone. Service.... so good.
Wednesday we read the Book of Mormon with Brad and Jackie again... they didn't read and I wanted to pull out my hair. They aren't progressing yet. I want this so bad for their family, but I know that they will be ready when it is right. That night Sister Abbott and Sister Losee came down from Willamina and spent the night. It was so fun to talk with my trainer again. I love her and I am glad that she is happy. Again, I felt like we just had a sleepover and we laughed and told funny stories about the mission all night long. Don't worry I got some sleep :)
Thursday we had Zone Conference. Elder Kukuchi from the Seventy came and spoke to us. He was so funny!! We spent 8 hours with him... it was a very long day. We had only a 35 min lunch break and then it was back to learn. He came to tour the mission so he talked a lot about the good things that we are doing, and the things that we need to work on. The good things: We are baptizing like crazy, but he promised that if we would be 100% obedient to the morning schedule (up at 6:30am, exercise, eat, get ready and be on time to studies) that we would double, triple and quadruple our baptisms. It was so amazing to hear the promises that are in store for our mission as we focus on being more obedient. He chastised a lot of the missionaries for sleeping in. He had each district stand up and say what they were not doing. It was really scary, but everyone did it and we all committed to working harder and being obedient. One of the things that really stuck with me is being active in the church and staying active in the church when we go home. What is it that makes us fall away? We should be learning Christ's Doctrine, Listen to the Holy Ghost, Pray, Read from the Book of Mormon, and attend Church. By doing all of these things we can receive personal revelation. That will be my guide and is my guide forever. Do those things and it will be easier. I know that these are the typical primary answers, but that is what works!! Why not be obedient to that?? I was so grateful to be with the 100 missionaries at the conference. There is something about being around missionaries, it boosts me up and makes me want to work hard. That night we had dinner with Cindy Anderson. She is going to come to church next week!! We met with Kevin and Robin that night too. Wow, it was a powerful lesson and I learned a lot from them. Kevin is VERY spiritual and told us an amazing story. It brought tears to my eyes as he was talking. Some background before I begin his story... Kevin and Robin took the missionary discussions 5 years ago. They were not married at the time and things got a little messed up, they were a bit offended and didn't get baptized. Over the last 5 years, missionaries always show up in their different houses and states. About a year and a half ago Kevin's dad died and it really shook him up. Last Sunday they came to church and the kids loved primary. They got a CD from the Primary to practice for the program if they want to participate. Now for the story from Kevin's perspective: "5 years ago I was given a gift, but because I was young and prideful I passed it up. I was crying on my back porch one day and then someone would show up. I would automatically say, No it is gonna be too hard, I don't want to give up some things. I thought nah, I don't want to do it. Then things would be okay for a little while and then something would happen and I would cry to God and then someone would show up. Again, I would put it aside and ignore it. Well I was again praying one day and I felt my dad's presence and I can remember the words that he said to me, 'Kevin, you have something so great and you only have so many chances. The Lord is patient, but you need to do something about this.' I have really been thinking about things and pondering about the church. On Sunday when we came to church and I saw my kids run out of class so happy, that made me so proud and I know that this is where our family needs to be. I can't put that aside. The kids have been listening to that music non stop for the last few days. I know that it will be hard, but I know this is the path that we need to take." Whoa!! I wanted to scream and jump up and down!!! I am so excited for their family. S. Stoehr and I are so excited to know them. I was grateful to bear my testimony and confirm the things that he said. The spirit was felt and they know that it is good. We hope to have the baptism on the 13th or the 20th of November.... now that would be a great bitrthday present!!! Good stuff!!
Friday and Saturday were alright, nothing too special happened. We went to the ward trunk or treat and ate with my fav family, Petersens!! I loved all the cute Halloween costumes!
Sunday... Happy Halloween!! S. Stoehr and I bought orange and purple tights and we felt very festive. haha! We had church, went to visit some people, got candy and had dinner with the Wintch's and Bair's. Those people are some of my favorites!! They cooked a yummy casserole inside of a pumpkin, it was gooooodd!! BUT one of the best things that happened that day was when we taught Emma Bartley (11 yr old). We taught the Plan of Salvation. Emma gets it, she understands it. At the end of the lesson we invited her to be baptized.. I thought she was gonna fly off her chair. She was so excited!!! She came over and gave us big hugs. Her mom went over and was going to start hugging her and Emma said, "Mom, don't hug me, you are gonna make me cry!!" Tears were all streaming down our faces and we listened to Emma telling her mom that she was so happy and she knew that this is what she needed to do. I am so excited for her!! We had to be inside by 7pm last night because of all the trick-or-treaters. Actually we had to be at President and Sister MacDonald's house by 7pm!!! We got to go to the mission home and study with 12 other missionaries for 2 hours. We all shared stories from the Book of Mormon, asked questions and had a great discussion. We ate yummy caramel corn and chocolate. I was so grateful for that experience. Never again will I be a missionary on Halloween. I am grateful for President, what a wonderful person who is guided by the spirit in everything that he does. I loved being in their home again. It brought back many memories from 7 months ago when I entered the mission field... so great.
Well this week was great!! Thank you for everything that you do for me :) I love and miss you all! I hope you all had a great Halloween :) Have a good week... Peace from Oregon!!!**

Happy Halloween in a couple of days!!
Both of our wards are having truck or treats on Saturday, so we will get to stop by and say hello. We actually have to be in our apt by 6pm on Sunday cause of all the trick or treaters. It is weird to live in a place where they still go out on Sunday. We just get to have extra time to study and probably go to bed early. Some Halloween right?? My comp and I bought pumpkins and we carved them this week. It was really fun. We listened to Christmas music and carved our pumpkins. I made mine and it said.. OEM. (Oregon Eugene Mission) it also had an anchor on it, that is the symbol of the mission. It was fun to carve and talk with S. Stoehr about fun Halloweens in the past. Here are some pics from that night. We are good at documenting :)
This week was so great!! We are teaching a lot and we found 6 new investigators to add to our teaching pool. 4 of them came to church yesterday!! First, Kevin Robin and Yaya. They are the family of 6 from Cali. We taught them the 1st lesson on Saturday night and invited them to come to church. They weren't really set on coming so we didn't think any more of it. We were sitting in the pews at church and out of the corner of my eye I saw there whole family walk into the building. I was THRILLED!!! They walked it and everyone came up to introduce themselves and the Bishop came right over and said hello. It was sweet! The talks were about Revelation and Agency. Man, the spirit was so strong and I knew they could feel it. The kids, Yaya (9), Brother (7), Stasta (6) and Pip (4), all went to Primary and LOVED it. The primary program is in 2 weeks and they invited them to have a part and be in it. Kevin and Robin came to Gospel Principles and they talked about the Priesthood. It was so cool. Many of the people in the class were converts and they shared experiences and testimonies were borne and it was just awesome. Kevin just kept shaking his head and agreeing with everything. I could tell that his mind was comprehending everything and they understood it and they just get it. Ah, I love there family so much!! I love teaching them!
We got to teach Emma (11) and Cole (14) on Saturday too. We had to run by the ward mission leaders house to drop off our progress record and they were at the house playing with their kids, so we called up there mom to make sure it was okay and we taught them the Restoration. Cole is very angry and upset with life. It is sad to see. He doesn't believe in God and is just mad at his dad because of the parent's divorce. He understood everything we said, but wanted to keep his thoughts to himself. He didn't come to church yesterday, but Emma did!! She is such a sweet girl! She loves learning and was in the primary program yesterday in the junction city ward. She went to 1 practice and had a part in it and everything. She took it all in when we taught. We asked her how she felt when we were done and she said that she is so excited to be in church again, and believes it all!! She asked if she could give us a hug at the end of the lesson. She will be baptized in a few weeks!! Please pray for Cole and Emma. Such good kids :)!!
We had an awesome lesson with Cindy this week. We talked about baptism and the holy ghost. She feels like she doesn't know yet. We are excited to teach her again and let her know that is starts with the belief, I know she is ready. I think she is just a little scared of the truth cause she has been looking for it for so long and doesn't think she will ever find the truth. I love the gospel and it is so perfect. My testimony has been so strengthened this week and I know without a doubt that this is the only true church on the earth. Jesus Christ set the perfect example and if we follow him, we can have eternal happiness with our families forever!! I love it so much. It makes me sad that people don't want to listen, but they have their agency.
We also have a new investigator, Jamie. She has a complicated story and not sure if I want to go into the details-- BUT we taught her yesterday and she wants to come to church next week. She loves to learn and is excited to hear the Book of Mormon, she can't read, on the lds.org. We had an okay lesson with her, we are excited to go back and get more taught... she is a chatter box :).
We read the Book of Mormon with Brad and Jackie and Gracie. Gracie went to church yesterday and was in the Primary Program. Brad and Jackie couldn't make it to church, but they said next week. I hope they keep that commitment. The family, Gambee's, that has fellow shipped them is awesome. They had a thought or impression to drop off a parenting book and CD's to them, but weren't sure if they would be offended. Well it just so happened that at the apt, Brad asked us what he could do to be a better parent and was looking for things in the church that could help him!!! So inspired. We told the Gambee's and they sent the info right over to them.
Both of the wards are starting to help us out more. They see that we are working hard to get people to church and they needed to see that. I am grateful for the people that help us missionaries out. It makes our job so much easier. I commend all of you that help us out, we love it so much :)!!
I went on exchanges with Sister Kaufusi!! I came out to Oregon with her. She was in a different district in the MTC so I didn't know her, but I love this girl so much!! We had so much fun together! I went to Springfield... everyone says that it is the ghetto, scary, psycho.. whatever you wanna call it, part of Oregon. I didn't think it was all that bad. haha. We taught a lot of people and had a good time. I like switching it up every once in a while. It makes it so much fun!
We have Elder Kukuchi coming to tour the mission this week!! It will be a huge mission conference again! Sister Abbott- my trainer and Sister Losee are coming to spend the night with us!! I am looking forward to it on Thursday!! I love learning about missionary work and how I can be better at using the things that I have and know to help people come closer to their Savior. Welp, Peace out!! Have a good week and a good halloween!! I love you all!!

Love Sister Glasgow XOXOXO

I got to be at the Coast again today!! It was a beautiful day in Florence! It was a nice little breeze, the sun was shining, and not a cloud was in the sky! We got to shop in all the little shops. It reminded me when we would go to Cali in Seaport Village or Sedona. One of the missionaries, Sister Wood, came back to visit, so she wanted us to go to the coast with her and Theran Wilson- a recent convert! The 4 of us girls had so much fun!
We met with Stephanie this week. We had dinner with her and Omar, her boyfriend. She made us yummy spaghetti-- btw no one feeds us spaghetti, I think that was one of the few times I have had it since I have been out, shocker huh? Well Omar left early so he could go play basketball and then we could finally talk to Stephanie about what is going to happen with them. They told us that they were going to plan on getting married in the summer and then next October go to the temple! It was fun to talk with her, without him there, cause that would have been a little awkward. Before we left she gave us a little present. It was a beautiful heart necklace with a nice note! I seriously love her so much. I hope that I am near this area in the summer so I can attend there wedding and maybe even be allowed to go to the temple in a year with them... so cool!!
Last Monday we had our Watermelon eating contest! Oh man, those Elders loved it! It was kinda gross though. They were spitting the seeds all over, smashing the water out of the melons and other weird things that boys do. S. Stoehr and I had a good time watching it all. This is one of the pics from it. We also got to tour Autzen Stadium. Wow that is a huge stadium. They told us that it is one of the loudest stadiums. They broke the record a few years back for the loudest stadium... louder than a jet plane! We got to run on the field and take as many pics as we wanted. When we entered the field, we got to go thru the tunnel the players run thru before the game. After the tour we got to watch a 10 minute clip of all the Ducks football highlights over the last year. It was so cool, but it made me want to watch a game!! Not aloud.
We taught Sara about the Plan of Salvation. She doesn't really believe in a lot of the things that we say, no commitment at all. We went to Cindy Anderson's house last week. We taught the Plan of Salvation to her too. She is really searching, praying and reading from the Book of Mormon. I love being over at her house! She is such a sweetheart. Tonight we are teaching her again. We are going to invite her to be baptized. Please pray for her! Finally saw Brad and Jackie for a few minutes this week. Jackie's step mom has only about a month to live, so they have been busy with all that family stuff. We set up a time to meet with them on Thursday.
On Tuesday we are going to be trained by President MacDonald. I can't wait!! His b-day is on Thursday, so S. Stoehr and I wrote in the sand and took a pic for his b-day. He is the man!! After we are trained I am going with my tongan sister, Sister Kaufusi, to Springfield. I am kinda nervous cause I hear it is kinda spooky and creepy over in that part of town, but I am glad I get to be with Fusi for the day!! She is so awesome!
We had a combined District Meeting on Friday. We spoke about Agency and the Book of Mormon. When we have meetings we do so many role plays. I love doing them, some of the most special experiences come from doing these! We practiced handing out the Book of Mormon. As a mission we are focusing on this, because that is one of the unique things to our church. I am glad that we are doing this. I love the Book of Mormon. I am so passionate about sharing it with everyone. My testimony of the Book of Mormon has increased so much as I read from it everyday. Just as Joseph Smith said, it will draw anyone nearer to God by reading it and by abiding by it's precept. We can read it, but when we actually live what we learn, it becomes so much more! I love being able to show the pictures in the soft cover copies. It draws people's attention. Love it!! S. Stoehr and I made a goal of handing out TONS of Book of Mormons before the end of the transfer. We are excited about reaching and going over our goal. :) In preparation for giving people them, we both read the talk, Flooding the Earth with the Book of Mormon by President Benson. It was given in a Conference talk the year and month I was born-- November 1988. This talk will blow you out of the water!! He is so bold and it still applies to today. If you haven't read that talk, I invite you to read it, then start opening your mouth and pass out some Book of Mormons!! (for Chase--- Book of Mormons, or Books of Mormon?? haha love ya buddy!!)
We got a new ward mission leader in the Santa Clara 1st ward. I am so stoked about it!! Bro. Hentzley is so excited to be apart of the missionary work and he is gonna help us out so much!
This week we weren't sure if any of our investigators were going to come to church. We were kinda bummed, so we have been praying that we would have a miracle- we do that a lot. Oh yeah, side note--- Jackie got a new work schedule, she doesn't work on Sundays anymore!!!!!!!!!!! YESSS!!! Our prayers were answered :)!! Back to Sunday.-- So during the Sacrament I notice a man poke his head thru the door and then leave. I recognized him as the husband of a less active member of the ward. Well we went to the Sunday School and in comes this man, he is not a member! Score- he was our investigator at church! He came in late, so I couldn't talk to him till after the class. The whole class I was praying that he would not bolt out so I could catch him, say hello and invite him to take the lessons. The closing prayer was said and I went over and said, "Brother Clark!" I didn't know his first name, but I thought it appropriate since he would soon be a member :). He then says hey and that his name is Robert. He told us that we could stop by and visit with his wife if she is ever available. Well I wasn't going to take that as an answer so I told him that we wanted to teach him and asked if he was interested. He told us that the other missionaries were intimidated, but we could go if we wanted to. The ward mission leaders wife was overhearing the conversation, comes over and asks him kinda laughing, "hey when are you gonna be baptized." He just laughed and said, we will talk when you come over on Thursday. Yippee!!! So cool. Another story- A lady that hasn't been to church in the last 6 years came yesterday. She has 3 kids and 2 of them want to be baptized! She is a sweet lady and is very excited to be back at church. I guess she just ended a really bad divorce and is looking for some guidance and direction-- what better way to do that then at church..... remember Elder Bednar, we come to church and our meetings to have a revelatory experience. I am looking forward to teaching the kids!
Last night we had an appointment with a less active family, but they canceled on us. I was really bummed and I didn't know what we were going to do. It was about 7:30pm and it was really dark out, so tracting or OYMing were out. We decided that we needed to see the Fransens, they are also less active. When we knocked on the door, Sister Fransen flew open the door and let us right in. She was so happy to see us!! She then told us her story-- Basically she hasn't been to church in the last year and is so upset that she can't get herself to go back. Her 3 kids aren't active and she feels like she failed. I was so grateful to be there for her right then, we shared the scripture in 2 Nephi 26: 23-24. She just cried while we were there and after we were finished we asked, "so, how we can we help you." Her reply "I think you just did." I felt so grateful that we had listened to the promptings we received so that we could be the listening ear she needed.
Quick funny story-- we had a correlation meeting on Sunday with the Ward mission leader and his wife. None of the ward missionaries could make it to the meeting, so it was just them and S. Stoehr and I. Well the wife went to throw something away and on her way back she accidentally tooted. I tried to not draw attention to it as she politely said "excuse me" and sat down, BUT my comp was another story. As I looked over at her about a minute after it happened she was bright red and couldn't hold in her laughs any longer. That made me laugh. Haha, all 4 of us were rolling on the ground. It was hilarious. Ha!
Welp, that's is mission life for ya!! I love it here so much. All the leaves are falling from the trees and it is usually foggy in the mornings and clears up by the afternoon. No rain yet, but I just take it one day at a time!
I love you all! Be happy and safe!!! Talk to you all next week!!!

October 11, 2010

So it has been a "Not so bad" kinda week. Nothing too exciting but nothing horrible either. I like weeks like these! To start off-- Tuesday morning S. Stoehr and I went running. Well when we got back to our apt she said, "oh no, I forgot the keys, do you have them?" I don't drive or have keys so I didn't grab them. Man, we were locked out of our apt!! It was 6:30am and no one was awake in our apt complex. We saw a lady open and shut her door, so we asked if she had a card so that we could slip it thru and try to unlock it. But she just looked at us crazy and said no. Bummer. We waited outside till about 8am and finally a lady across the street was awake. She let us use her phone. I only have two numbers memorized, ours and Central Point. I was glad that we got a hold of someone and eventually we got in. haha.
The elders talked to someone down by Autzen stadium and they got their number and we gave them a call. Kevin and Robin have 4 kids and she is prego with her 5th. They invited us over for yummy tacos and fruit! We found out that they had a baptismal date a few years back, but they weren't married and things got a little lost and twisted around. Well, they just moved into a house, they are married and are so awesome! I straight up asked Kevin if he would join the church and he said "yeah." It blew me away!! They are going to a Catholic church right now and they really like it, but we are going to be teaching and hopefully they will be a great addition to the Santa Clara 1st ward!!
We had a lesson with Cindy Anderson. She married to a less active member. She grew up Jewish, but doesn't practice. We taught the Restoration and the spirit was so strong. Cindy has a lot of questions and it has been great to answer them thru the spirit. I don't know a lot of the times what I say, but I know that the spirit testifies of truth and we could all feel it. She is pretty much ready to learn and I am excited for her to become a member and for her husband and kids to get active again!!
We haven't seen Brad and Jackie for almost 2 weeks. Brad actually called us on Saturday and left us a message saying that he wanted us to come by and talk with them!! He was afraid that they offended us. Funny thing is that we called Jackie and left her a message asking when we could come by again. Brad wasn't aware of this so it was good to hear from him!! We spoke with Brad and he told us that he had been on Mormon.org and that he was chatting with some missionaries and just felt like something was missing. He recognized the spirit and that he hadn't been with there family while we have been gone. I am excited to go over this week and let them know just how important this is. YES!!!!
We went tracting on a house with 3 houses. As soon as we pulled up to the street I knew that there was someone that we needed to find. The first man was very rude and yelled at us that his family was having dinner and that we interupted. The next house was empty. The last house was kinda in the back part of the neighborhood. We knocked on the door and I just knew that we needed to talk to the person inside. We heard a baby crying and then it was quiet. Finally, Amanda opened the door and she spoke with us. She was scared to open the door cause it was kinda late and her husband wasn't home. He baby was crying and hungry so we didn't get to talk too much, but she wanted us to come back on Tuesday night! YES!!!! I am so grateful for times when the spirit speaks to me and I feel led to find people. It is truly a miracle!!
Today we are having a watermelon eating contest! Our ward mission leader always gives us food and so he gave us 6 watermelons!! We asked our elders in the district if they wanted to so we are excited! I got my haircut today... mom I wish that you were here so that you could cut it. Luckily it turned out alright :) We are also going to tour Autzen stadium, where the Oregon Ducks play. I am stoked to see it and be on the field!
Well sorry this letter isn't that great, but I am glad to have good weeks like this. Always room for improvement, so I am excited to get to work tonight!!! Find find find, teach teach teach. Yep, it will be great!!
I love you all so much!! Thank you for all giving me the support and love that I NEED!!!! Take care this week!

Love Sister Glasgow

October 4, 2010

This weekend was so amazing!
Friday afternoon S. Stoehr and I went over to a recent converts house and burned some nylons. We have both been out for 6 months.. crazy! It was fun to have a Little burn party. haha... that night we filled up the font and had the water all warm and ready... But where was the Bishop and the Ward Mission Leader? At about 10 min till I felt like I should call them and make sure they were coming (the Bishop and the WML are a father and son). Well they had forgotten about the baptism and were not ready. I was really frustrated and annoyed that they forgot, but I told them to hurry over so we could get started. We just listened patiently to the prelude music for about 20 minutes. They arrived finally and we had a wonderful baptism. Stephanie was really emotional the whole time and I knew that she felt the spirit testify to her that what she was doing was making Heavenly Father smile. :) When she came up out of the water she was glowing. That whole night she was beaming and so happy. It truly is the Lord's work and this is the only way. I was so pleased that I got to be apart of her life and see the change come over her as she read from the scriptures, came to church and prayed. She invited her mom, aunt and some friends from work to the baptism. I was glad that they were there for her and they felt the special spirit during the service. I love baptisms :). Well that just kicked off the Conference weekend for me. I was such in a good mood and loved hearing all the talks. I had a wonderful experience as I listened to the prophet. As he spoke his words were the Lords. He spoke, but to me it felt as if the Lord was speaking that to me. I will never forget that experience! I was so overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude for the many wonderful things in my life. I have a good life. I have such wonderful people around me and I really thank all of you for the love and support! I couldn't do this work without that! I need all of you. As the prophet spoke of Gratitude I felt so blessed and was reflecting on the life that I have. I am grateful to be here now in Oregon serving, giving back to Him for the many things that He has given me. I love being able to serve in Oregon! The mission has been one of the hardest things, but it is so worth it! I hope that everyone that is even considering to go, will GO! Go and don't look back! I love my mission!
So at the beginning of the week it wasn't so peachy as the weekend.... sad. We went to Laura Anderson's house.. the one that wanted to fight with us. We asked her to work towards baptism, but she told us that she is not ready. I was really glad that she isn't opposed to it completely, but I know that she will come around sooner or later. She was making Amish Friendship bread and gave us a starter bag... that made me think of you mom. Oh yeah and we cleaned for a lady in between conference sessions on Saturday and she cleans with Vinegar and Water... make me think of you again mom. :) I sure miss you, so that was a little refresher and I felt like you could be in the next room baking the loaves of bread or cleaning in the next room. Love you. So we aren't teaching her anymore, hopefully in a few weeks she will be ready. We went to Brad and Jackies. I bore my testimony to them and told them that they needed to act and do what we ask them to do if they want to progress. It is really sad, I love this family so much. I just don't know how to get across to them and have them have experiences on there own. It is complicated. We decided to give them some time on their own to pray and read and hopefully they will want to be baptized. They want too, but just aren't sure if Mormon is the way they want to go. They told us that we pray to the Mormon God.... no no no!! Ahh they need time, so that is what we are doing.
So Melissa and Danika... haven't talked to them yet. They are hard to reach, but when we went over last night we met Danika's dad- Dan. He told us that Melissa and him are not dating anymore and are going to be separating. I felt really bad and he was on the verge of tears. I told him that when they get things all settled that we would come back.
We were not able to contact Heather this week. I was so sad. I was thinking a lot about my investigators as I listened to conference and I especially got the chills when Elder Scott (I think) talked about abusing medication. I have met many other people here that have been abusing those prescribed prescriptions. I am so grateful for latter day prophets who are so inspired and say what the saints need to here.
We had District Meeting on Friday... we were soooo busy that day, but it was sweet! S. Stoehr and I taught the other elders how to begin teaching. When we were planning I was thinking that we should make up and acronym to the work B E G I N. So we decided that B was for Bullet Points. I kept spelling the work bullet wrong every time I wrote it down. Well on Friday at the meeting I started to write on the chalkboard. I started to write Bullet and in my head i was saying, "ok Sister Galsgow, don't spell it wrong and look like a goof." As I was writing I heard S. Stoehr say.... "ummmm Sister Glasgow." I looked at what I was writing and I spelled the word Butt. I was so embarrassed... I couldn't believe that I did that in front of all the other missionaries. My face was bright red and all I could say was, "how embarrassing!" We all got a laugh out of that one :).
I am looking forward to the new week! We are going to be finding a lot of new people. Last night we got 3 referrals and they all sound very promising.
This morning we went hiking with Sister Nichols and Sister Wilson, at Spencers Butte again. We could actually see all of Eugene and the whole valley. I felt like I was on the top of the world. Dad that reminded me of hiking the Superstitions and getting to the top and feeling so good! (minus the fact that it only took us 30 minutes and it was dinky little switchbacks.) The whole state of Oregon is covered in trees! I also got to go to the mission office and I got a lot of mail, so that made me happy. Thank you for all the pics mom. I love seeing you all! The boys are getting so big and all are so handsome.:)
Sister Losee is getting transferred on Wednesday. I am sad that i won't get to see her as much anymore. We are going to hang out with them later today, so that will be good to be with her again. I talked to her on the phone last night and it is so weird to talk about missionary things with her... all business like haha.
Well I hope the weather starts to cool down in Mesa. I know that the rainy season is just around the corner. We had a weird hot pocket this week, but it won't be long before it rains all the time. I can't wait. Love you all!! Please pray for the investigators. They need your help, love and support. Get out and share the gospel! Take care!

Love Sister Glasgow :) XOXOXOXO

September 27, 2010

Hello from beautiful Oregon!
Today was a BLAST!! We went to the Coast!! We went to Florence. Jordan Bair took us and her little 13 month old girl Brooklyn. She is a doll. We had so much fun. The Coast is breathtaking! I just sat on the beach and soaked up all the beauty :)!! We got to see TONS of sea lions. President told us that we could put our feet in the water. We were walking down the beach and a huge wave came in. My back was turned and just as I looked the waves were coming right for me and little Brooklyn. I didn't know what to do, so I quickly scooped her up in my hands and ran away. It was really weird to hold a baby again. I miss holding cute Avery. I was so glad that I was near her and was able to get her away from the waves. The coast rocks!!
Stephanie had her interview on Sunday night. She was so terrified, but she did great and is set to be baptized on Friday. This week we are going over to watch the Testaments with her. I am so excited for her. She is beaming and so happy. We also got to go to the Gen Relief Society meeting with her... she loved hearing the women and the prophet speak. Ditto.
Brad and Jackie are doing okay. Jackie didn't get the job that she applied for, so now she really can't come to church. We are still praying for her. This week we are going to ask them if they want to move the baptism date back cause they are not ready, or we might have to stop going over if they don't progress. They love having us over, but they don't keep commitments. Pray that they will have a desire to learn and grow. They need this soooo bad!!
This week Sister Losee and I got to go on exchanges!! As we were talking at night I said "haha this is kinda funny, we are having a sleepover in Oregon together!!" She is so much fun! I loved spending the day with her! We had a really neat experience. We were tracting some apt and we met Melissa. We asked if we could come back the next day and share more, she wanted us to. So we gave her a BOM and left our number with her and left. A couple hours later, we were on the opposite side of town. We saw a lady outside, she wasn't interested. We saw some boys smoking in their car, they weren't interested, but they told us to go talk to the two girls on the opposite side of the street. We went over and met Danika and Jodie. Danika was really interested and asked us to come back, but she wanted us to go to her apt. Well as she told us the number, I was in awe because she told us the same number that Melissa lived in. We talked to the roommates at separated times and complete opposite sides of the town. It was amazing!! Kind of a bummer that we haven't been able to teach them yet, but we have an appointment this week.
I had a really neat experience and my testimony was strengthened by the power of the priesthood. We met Heather. She is addicted to pills and wants to quit and make some changes in her life so she can be happy. We had our ward mission leader and another brother from the Junction City ward give her a blessing. It was great to be in the home and feel the darkness turn to light as they promised her blessings according to her faithfulness. It was really neat. Heather has lost her job, house, car and her 6 year old daughter. She had to be out of her house on Sunday night, so we can't see her anymore, but I was grateful to have had so many wonderful experiences as we taught and listened to her. Pray that we will get a hold of her again and find out where she moved.
We found out that Vince AND his cousin are being taught by the elders! We called him up to make sure that he was doing alright and he sounded so happy. He doesn't have a baptismal date, but we are hoping it will be soon :) (we couldn't teach him anymore cause he is single and the elders that are over the singles ward are teaching him now .)
This week was good. I am so excited for this week to start!! So many wonderful things are underway! Lots of people to find and teach.
I am grateful for the Prophet President Monson. It was confirmed to me again that he is the Prophet on the earth. He hold all the keys and knows how to help all of us. I am looking forward to conference weekend... especially to see Stephanie get baptized!! Good day, Good week. :) I love you all!!

September 20th

This week was a little bit slow. We are making plans for Stephanie's baptism. Gosh she is so prepared and listens to everything that she is taught and takes it and runs with it. I wish everyone was like that! We talked about the Word of Wisdom last week and she used to drink coffee smoothies, but she is has changed to drinking steamers. Wow she is great!! We had a little mix up because she lives in the 2nd ward, attends the 1st ward, but when she is baptized she will go to Omar's ward which is the 6th ward. Gosh I was going nuts trying to figure out who would conduct the baptism. Basically, one of the bishops finally said, I don't care where or who, just get her baptized. haha he doesn't mess around. I am glad that everything is starting to work itself out. Stephanie and Omar had us over for dinner this week. They are dating still, so it was kinda awkward to be around them all cuddly and stuff.... ehhh. Anyways they are great. Brad and Jackie are alright. They won't keep any of their commitments. Reading from the Book of Mormon and praying together is like pulling teeth for them. They come up with all these excuses.... but we still pray for them and know they will start to progress. Jackie had her interview and she won't find out until Tuesday if she gets the job or not. We are going to have the lesson at the church building on Tuesday, so I hope they will be able to feel the spirit and get a move on finding and learning for themselves. So we had a great lesson with Khaleel on Tuesday. He felt the spirit and we showed him the church building. He really enjoyed it and even cried as we were talking. He has come from a rough situation and just wants more peace in his life. Well we set up another time to meet with him on Thursday. On Thursday morning I had a feeling that we should call him and just double check that he wouldn't be going back to Saudi Arabia-- we can't teach Muslims if they plan on going back because they could be killed-- He told us that he plans on visiting for a couple months every few years, but never living there. I called my district leader and we are not allowed to teach him. I was crushed, I didn't want to call him back and tell him, but I did. I told him that we couldn't and he just started to thank us for helping him and start him on the right path. He was sad, but told us that he had the Book of Mormon and that we would continue to read it. Man.... that was a bummer. Oh yeah it was also a bummer that we didn't get in contact with Miguel or Kim this week.... I think they are hiding from us. Sad! Laura Anderson had us over this week too. She was just wanted to fight with us the whole time. I felt like I had to be on the defense and was angry while we were there. I was not feeling the spirit and I didn't like it at all!! ahh. I finally just bore my testimony and told her that she needs to read and pray and then we can come back. whaaaa! We haven't found any new investigators, but have found so many potential people, they just don't know that they are ready. I feel so blessed to be in the area. It is rich with people that need this gospel. It also has more people that slam doors, but I just laugh at those things. This week it has been raining, drizzling and misting all day. We were out on Wednesday and didn't think it was going to rain, so we didn't have our jackets with us, well it started to poor. My clothes were soaked, my once straight hair, was ridiculously curly and frizzy. Yuck! I carry my rain jacket in the car wherever we go!
Today we were supposed to go to the coast, but we couldn't find anyone that would take us. BUT we decided to go explore. We found Spencer's Butte. Wow it was GORGEOUS!! It was a little rainy, but because of the thick shrubs and trees, we didn't get wet. It was about a mile hike and wasn't hard at all! I love the green here! I took tons of pics, but I don't have my cord with me, bug, but I will send some next week. The rain doesn't do so well with my hair, it just gets way frizzy. Ponytails are good :)
S. Stoehr and I have so much fun here! Last night we had laugh fest 2010. I couldn't stop laughing and my stomach hurt so bad.... we like to have fun together! We haven't found anymore spiders in our apt for the last couple days, but they are all outside--
This week we had combined district meeting. We started a program on Sunday. I am very excited to work so hard over the next 2 weeks. We are using our phone like crazy and contacting the less active members in the ward. We went to the Thompson's last night. The lady, Gwen opened the door and let us right in. Her husband is less active and she isn't a member. She said that everyone has been trying to convert her, but she believes everything.... hmmmm. I shared a scripture with her and she was so impressed with the verse. I asked her if she had ever read the Book of Mormon or taken the discussions... she hadn't read, but she had missionaries teach her. I asked if she would read 3 Ne 11. She accepted and we will check up with her.
These last few months I have learned so much. We are constantly learning and studying and applying the things that we know. I have found good and bad, but most of all I have been happy. When I work hard, I feel so much better. I am so grateful to be in Santa Clara and Junction City. The wards are starting to improve and starting to help us. Yesterday at church we spoke to all the priesthood and told them that they basically needed to help us. We had a few people come and give us some names.... we are still working with them.
Well I hope you all have a fantastic week. I received many letters from you all and that made me super happy!! Nothing better than getting letters in the mail! I hope you all have opportunities to share the gospel. It is so important, don't let those moments pass you by. Share it!!! Like Elder Glasgow said... the church is perfect. I see that more and more and I know it is true. It is perfectly organized, because we have the perfect person at the center of it all. Believe in him and act!! I love you all!!!!

Love Sister Glasgow XOXOXO

September 13, 2010

Wow! How is everyone doing in Mesa! Eugene is cloudy and cold today, but I like it!! This week has been one of the most rewarding weeks in my mission so far!! Here is what has been going down.
Stephanie- We taught her the Plan of Salvation, but before the lesson we asked her about baptism and why she didn't want to be baptized this weekend. She told us that Omar's (her boyfriend) kids would be down the first weekend in October and she wanted them to be there for her baptism-- now that wasn't too hard to say!! I was floored and had a huge smile on my face the whole lesson. She is getting baptized on October 1st by Omar's 17 year old son. (Omar and his boys are all members) What a perfect way to kick off the Conference Weekend!!
Brad and Jackie- We had 2 lessons this week. Both went great! We invited them to be baptized on the 9th of October. They are not super solid yet, but they are praying and I know they will receive an answer. Here is a miracle- Jackie works on Sundays, so she wouldn't be able to attend church and that means she can't get baptized, well Sister Stoehr and I have been praying for a miracle. On Saturday night Jackie informed us that she was interviewing for a new job this week and she was pretty positive and knows the head of the company. Her schedule would change to a regular mon to fri work schedule... Miracle?? Yes. We fasted for her yesterday and I know that everything will work out! There little daughter, Gracie, went to church with some of the kids in the Primary... the fellowshipper family invited her to come and she was so excited! I am so excited for their family! They invited us over for dinner on Wednesday. Yippee. Funny story-- Gracie was sitting on the couch next to Brad and was sipping some coke and licking the cup. Well Brad didn't think that was too polite but he didn't realize that she had soda in her cup. He tapped the bottom of the cup to get her to stop, and some of the coke went right in her face. Gracie is pretty dramatic, so she started crying and throwing a fit. My comp and I were praying and trying not to laugh at the same time. All the sudden, Gracie looks at her dad and throws the rest of the pop all over his shirt, pants and shoes. I couldn't help but laugh. I felt bad cause it just encouraged her. Brad is a great dad and just kinda laughed it off. Haha they are awesome!
Eric- he dropped us, he doesn't want to meet with us anymore and actually moved to Sweet Home. Sad.
Laura Anderson- She was the lady that showed up to church last week. We ended up going to her house and cleaned her bathroom and floors for her. We talked about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. She is kinda hung up on a few things, so we are still working with her. She loves coming to church and all the family values, but not sure about the book of mormon and Joseph Smith.....
So all of these things were great this week... but it gets even better. In the mission we have what is called, Windows of Heaven. We plan on Thursdays and pray and point out specific streets to go knock on doors or talk to people outside in the neighborhoods. Well we planned a few of them this week and we had some great conversations, but no promising people, until we met Kim Larson. We were on Pear Loop and we were almost done with the area and hadn't found too many people, I was kinda bummed. Well out of the corner of my eye I see a woman outside smoking on her patio. We went over and spoke with her. She was so nice and is looking for truth in her life. She has 4 boys... what a great conversation piece :), and she grew up Lutheran. Well we left her a restoration pamphlet, set up a time and got her number. I called her today and she has read the pamphlet and is looking forward to seeing us tonight. Miracle? Yes!!
Next we have Miguel. Miguel was a potential investegator. Some previous sisters tracted into him, but never went back to him. Reason, I don't know! We went and knocked on his door, no one answered so we went to the side of his house and saw a man in the garage. It was Miguel. He was so happy to see us and a bit suprised. He explained that he wanted the sisters to come back and that he was bummed that they didn't go back. We have an appointment with him this week. We gave him a pamphlet and he is really excited to learn.
Alright here is another miracle.... last night, Sister Stoehr and I parked at the church and were on our way to a recent converts home. While we were about to cross the street, a man walked by us. I started to tell him who we are and introduced my comp and I. He told us that he was Muslim and that he knows their is a God. He believes in Jesus Christ and that he died for us. Great! We spoke for about 5 minutes, gave him a pamphlet, and I felt like I should give him a book of mormon with our number. We went on our way. As we were walking to our appointment, I said to my comp, "I wonder what will ever happen to him". We speak to so many people and I always wonder if they ever come in contact with the church again. We had our appointment with the recent convert and then we were walking to our car. As I was listening to our voice mails, the Muslim man called us!!! He said that he read some of the "book of the mormon" and he had some questions. I was thrilled, my comp and I were jumping up and down. This never happens!!! I called him up and he was glad that we called him back. He was reading in Alma 39 and some of the verses meant a lot to him. He expresed that he was thinking about God and was going through a really rough time in his life and then we talked to him. He was so appreciative. We are going to be meeting with him, Khaleel, tomorrow. So cool.
Good things are happening.... oh and I haven't even told anything about one of my favorite things that have happened so far.... ELDER BEDNAR CAME!!!! Holy smokes it was awesome!! It was neat to be amongst 180 other missionaries and sing hymns, sing our oregon eugene song and pray together and gather to hear an apostle. I was happy to see many faces that I hadn't seen since the MTC... Sister Jolley!! I also got to see my old comp and trainer, Sister Longhurst and Sister Abbott. I love being a missionary. President told all the sisters to sit on teh front two rows. I was on the front row, smack in the middle. Elder Bednar came with Elder Maung (spelling) and Elder Ringwood from the Seventy. We were instructed for 4 hours with them. He asked many questions and we were able to ask him questions. One of the most special things he spoke of is how when we attend any meeting we should look at it as a "revelatory experience". He also spoke about the importance of having our investigators seek faith by learning. We need to teach them to find answers, and not to rely on us so much. When we have them pray about the book of mormon, pray like Joseph Smith. Act on the answers we receive. I could go on and on about all the things he spoke of, but my time is short. Elder Bednar is an apostle of the Lord. He was there as a witness and I know his is an apostle. He shared one of the most remarkable testimonies, I will never forget the spirit I felt or the things that I learned. The holy ghost was the teacher. Wow. It was truly amazing to be in that meeting amongst my elders and sisters. This was an experience that I won't ever have again and I am glad that I prepared myself and was fed. :)
Anyways, this week was fantastic. I love being a missionary. We are having such a great time and I am learning so much. My testimony of Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father increases each day. I love the work. I love the Lord. I know this church is true. Be happy. Have fun and I will talk to you all next week. Please pray for the investigators that they will gain a testimony and they will want to follow Jesus Christ. They need it so bad!!! Thank you for all that you guys do. I am being so blessed and I feel the love and support!!!!

What a week!!

Hello everybody!!
Well this week was a whirlpool of finding, cancelling appointments, combined district meeting, a bad day and lots of other things.
We had a lesson with Stephanie again on Tuesday night. We taught her the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She really likes all that we talk about, but is soooo shy. We barely get a peep out of her. At the end of the lesson she broke down and told us that she wasn't going to be baptized on the 18Th. I felt like I was in a dream when she told us. My jaw was probably on the floor.... wow. That was rough to hear. I was completely devastated :(. She had to leave right when she told us that, so we still haven't been able to find out the concerns. She did say that she would be baptized, but not that soon. I still pray for her and know that everything will work out.... she is GOLDEN I tell ya!!
Eric is a whole other story... where do I even begin with him. He had a job interview this week, so on Wednesday we decided to go and see how it went. He was outside smoking and talking to us about how he found God and that he had faith. We were so happy for him, but there was something that was a little off about the things that he was telling us. I didn't feel the spirit while he was talking. Well to make a LONG story short, he basically told us that he was able to find God, while he smoked pot with his friend Robbie the whole night. Gosh. Really Eric? That was so crazy to hear. He said that he knew that God allowed him to use Pot to get him to find his friend Robbie so they could find God together. WHAT?? Oh man, it was really hard to talk with him after that. He went off on the Word of Wisdom..... anyways. He told us that he still would like to meet with us, but he is going to look at other religions too. A pastor and his wife went and visited with him last night. We were pretty bummed when he told us. That is one of the things that really threw off our day on Wednesday. It was such a bum day. We tracted, OYM'd, and had appointments that day. No one was home, we were soaked because it rained on us for a good 3 hours(mom and dad-- we don't use umbrellas here, none of the missionaries use them). It was a day that I hope doesn't happen again.
So on Saturday morning to mid afternoon I went on exchanges with Sister Nichols. I went into the heart of Eugene. Sister Nichols covers the University. It was cool to see all the college kids and craziness of Eugene. The bus stop was my favorite,,, all kinds of kooks :) I loved it. We had such an amazing experience. We went to some apartments and we only ahd about 20 minutes. I decided to go to Letter G Apts. The first couple doors we knocked on no one was home, but then we came to Justins house. He opened the door and looked so surprised to see us. We found out that the Elders in the ward had been teaching him. The elders told him to pray to receive answers about some of the things happening in his life. i guess that strange and bad things were happening, nothing was going right. Justin told us that he started to blame God and was angry. We were able to bear our testimonies and encouraged him to continue praying, Satan knows that it is good and he doesn't want us to pray. It was a blessing to be in that area at that time to help him. I love being a missionary.
Had a 2 great lessons with Vince this week. We took Catherine, a girl from the singles ward with us to the apt. She served a mission a few years ago and was awesome!! She invited him to church and they went yesterday. We are sad that we have to pass him over to the elders in the singles ward... bummer. He is truly learning and taking everything in. I know he will be baptized soon.
Yesterday at church was great!! I spoke on the phone to a former investigator a few days prior to Sunday and invited her to church..... she came!! It was awesome. She is so solid. She has read the BOM, Doctrine and covenants and is reading the Pearl of Great Price right now. She is hung up on the Word of Wisdom... coffee and tea. We have an appointment with her this week. It was an answer to my prayers to have her at church. The testimonies borne were all about how we can be strengthened and how we can know for ourselves. Sweet..... side note. The lady that taught the relief society lesson started out her lesson by singing to us. Then all throughout her talk she sang I am a Child of God. It was weird and I felt so uncomfortable. I felt like I was in high school musical church style... random.
BRAD AND JACKIE are sooooo cool!!! Oh man they are awesome!! We had 2 lessons with them this week. On Sunday night we took Brother Gambee, a ward missionary, to our lesson. He was spot on with everything that they needed to hear. They both have a 6 year old, a dog and Bro Gambee used to live in the same apt complex as Brad and Jackie. It was a blessing to have him there and have him bear his testimony about prayer and scripture study. He also opened there eyes to the Pre-mortal Life. I was so grateful to him being there. It was sick!! Brad and Jackie love what we teach, we haven't set a date for baptism yet.... Jackie works every Sunday. Please pray that she can come to church. They are so good to us and I love being over at there house!! We invited them to pray with there daughter Gracie every night. They are scared to do it, but they accepted and we are excited to find out how it went... we have a couple apt with them this week :)
Alright, so this week had it's ups and downs. But I love it.
My apartment is gross. So many yucky spiders, I can't stand it!!! They are huge and they are everywhere!! Today, Sister Stoehr and I got rid of some of them. We cleaned really good and got rid of clutter from the missionaries that leave there crap behind.
We cover the Santa Clara 1st Ward and Junction City Ward. They both meet at 9am so we switch between the wards every other week. Every other day we are in Santa Clara or Junction City/ Harrisburg/ Monroe. The area is big!! The member struggle with helping the missionaries. We get fed by the members often. This area is so much different than Central Point and Goldhill. The temp is less, the trees are more green and a lot more of them, there is moss everywhere. The sun is still shining. It has only rained a few times since being here. It isn't cloudy, you can still see the blue sky.
This week was time for me to realize how important planning is. If we don't plan, we don't have success, appointments fall through, and we just have bad days. Although it isn't one of my favorite things to do, it is necessary and that is how we get the work done!! Ceds- hopefully you have learned this by now, cause I got smacked in the face with it.
Well family and friends, I love you all so much! i am learning more than I ever could imagine. I know the Savior atoned for each of us. He was perfect, yet he was willing to suffer all the pain, sickness, hurt and guilt. We don't get a free ride. We need to work at being better each day. We need to repent daily. We need Jesus Christ, it is the only way to happiness. I love being a missionary. The work is awesome!! My comp is fantastic and we are working and finding and teaching. So cool!!
Happy Labor Day to everyone!!
Miss and Love you all!!

Love Sister Glasgow
